Fernando Pessoa’s Private Book Collection online

To enable every reader around the globe to access the legacy of one of the Portuguese Culture greatest figures, Fernando Pessoa’s House and the Vodafone Portugal Foundation have joined efforts to ensure that Fernando Pessoa’s Private Book Collection is available online. Before, only a visit to Fernando Pessoa’s House, in Lisbon, would allow access to this vast cultural legacy; in fact, not only Pessoa’s private book collection is available but also his manuscripts (essays and poems) that he wrote in this book’s pages.

Today, all the works belonging to Fernando Pessoa’s House are online as well as those belonging to Pessoa’s heirs, thus resulting on a total of 1300 volumes accessible through the Internet.

The field work included digitising each page on every volume, and making them available to page by page browsing or complete book download at http://casafernandopessoa.cm-lisboa.pt

As well as consulting each work by author, year or alphabetically, it may also be consulted by categories.

In order to make it easier to understand the whole of the book collection, pages containing Pessoa’s manuscripts were highlighted, also, were added some studies about Pessoa’s motivations to acquire some books.

Accessing Fernando Pessoa’s Private Book Collection is now possible thanks to the combined efforts of Fernando Pessoa’s House, an international academic investigation team, and the Vodafone Portugal Foundation which accompanied and supported the project with 77 thousand Euros.
