Mobile School
2nd and 3rd cycle of elementary education first access or continuity, for children of travelling workers
During the 2006/2007 academic year, continuing during the years 2007/2008, 2008/2009, and 2009/2010, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grade students who are the children of travelling workers, market traders and circus artists received daily access to school programmes and were enabled to study and work through an Internet-based network wherever they happened to be, in Portugal or abroad. This project, which is a partnership between the Vodafone Portugal Foundation and the Innovation and Curriculum Development Directorate of the Ministry of Education, offers this special segment of the student population access to, continuity in and completion of the 3rd cycle of elementary education, thereby contributing to effective equality of opportunity.
Thanks to the most recent technologies – an online teaching platform and mobile communications – students and teachers are in constant touch with one another. The Vodafone Portugal Foundation is supporting this project with the donation of 3G broadband cards and all calls made from those cards by students and teachers during the academic year.
