Teaching of Portuguese Sign Language and introduction to Information Technologies to deaf children
In March 2004, the Vodafone Portugal Foundation began its support for the Inforfórum project in partnership with the Luz Mater Association.
This project supports the teaching of Portuguese Sign Language and introduction to Information Technologies to deaf children.
In the first phase, Portuguese Sign Language is taught to the children and their families, so breaking down a first barrier to communication. In the second phase, the children receive an introduction to IT, which removes a second barrier to their social integration.
In addition, the programme equips the young people with tools that will improve their chances of continuing their studies or entering the labour market.
The Foundation donated a total of 80,000 euros for the training of 140 people, the purchase of adapted hardware and software, and for the necessary works to premises granted to the project by Sintra Municipal Council.
