Support in Information Technologies
Promote access to new information technologies for people with special needs
In November 2005, the Vodafone Portugal Foundation initiated a project to promote access to new information technologies for people with special needs, thereby contributing to their skilling and inclusion in society and the labour market. Under an agreement with the Association for the Education of the Blind (APEC - António Feliciano de Castilho Institute), the Vodafone Portugal Foundation is funding the training of four trainers and a co-ordinator (themselves visually impaired) who will be available full time to visit residential homes (and also hospitals, senior citizens' homes and parish centres where necessary) to provide the required assistance. The Foundation has also provided these trainers with a set of technological tools adapted to the needs of the visually impaired: computers and special software, and mobile phones with special resources that enable them to demonstrate to the full the potentialities of the new information technologies.
This project, which is now in its fourth year, has been fully funded by the Vodafone Portugal Foundation at a cost of 270,000 Euros.
