Geodynamic Monitoring in the Azores
Study and quantification of the natural risks from geodynamic processes in Azores
In July 2006, the Vodafone Portugal Foundation supported the installation of several GPS stations on the islands in the central group of the Azores as part of an initiative by the University of Beira Interior to study and quantify the natural risks from geodynamic processes. Under a two-year co-operation agreement, the Foundation donated Vodafone Mobile Connect Cards and mobile data usage to facilitate constant monitoring of movements of the Earth’s crust as well as the daily transmission of the data obtained.
