ICP's answer to Telecel's additional frequencies request
Telecel has received a partial answer to its request for additional GSM and DCS frequencies, from the ICP, the regulatory body in Portugal.
The answer refers only to the GSM frequencies requested. The request for additional GSM frequencies was declined by the ICP, who argued that “the GSM frequencies will be kept for the third operator in an effort to make available equal resources for each competitor”.
Telecel regrets this decision, believing that the actual and potential growth of its customer base fully justified its request for additional GSM and DCS frequencies. Telecel believes that the current operators should not be administratively restrained in their growth opportunities, and in their ability to provide a high quality of service.
