In the next season 97/98, Telecel will keep on officially sponsoring the three main Portuguese football clubs: Futebol Clube do Porto, Sporting Club de Portugal and Sport Lisboa e Benfica. This sponsorship started last season, having Telecel exclusive sponsorship of Sporting and Benfica, and being co-sponsor of Futebol Clube do Porto.

Experience of 96/97 had positive results and sponsorship will be renewed. To be noted that the decision of being an official sponsor of the “3 Main” Portuguese football clubs simultaneously, has to do with the fact of Telecel being present in a global market covering the whole country.

By renewing this sponsorship, Telecel is trying to consolidate levels of brand awareness already achieved, and reinforcing empathy with the great number of football lovers, thus spreading even more its presence within all market segments. Since the start of its activity, and besides football, Telecel has been sponsoring the most diverse sportive modalities, symbols of mobility and freedom of movements, also features of the cellular mobile service.

Telecel has been supporting several motorised sports, namely four-by-four (of which Baja Telecel 1000 is a significant example, being internationally known), but also tennis, athletics, golf, fencing, sailing and several of the so called radical sports. This year, among other, Telecel will sponsor Fencing World Cup, Telecel Boat Races, for the Laser European Championship, and 24 hours Telecel, restarting tradition of automobile endurance proofs in circuit.
