In the month of April, Telecel opened five new stations in Madeira being the first mobile communications operator covering the whole coast of the Island. With a station in S. Jorge, Telecel has completed the continuing coverage of North Coast, expanding its network also to West Coast by installing a station in Ponta do Pargo.

On the other hand, new stations were installed in Câmara de Lobos, Ribeira Brava and East of city of Funchal, reinforcing coverage and communications capabilities. Telecel service now covers almost the whole territory and the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo.

This coverage reinforcement comes in line with the investment policy outlined for Madeira and has represented over the last months an approximate amount of 320,000.000 PTE including the opening of a new Telecel Store in Funchal. With the new stations and the Switching Central opened in 1997, Telecel as assured a general coverage in Madeira and Porto Santo, reinforcing capacity and quality of communications made through Telecel network.
