2006 First half results
Lisbon, 14 November 2006 In the six months ended on 30 September 2006, Vodafone was the only operator in Portugal both to grow its customer base and to increase service revenues in relation to the same period last year.
In spite of the reductions in interconnection charges, Vodafone Portugal saw its service revenues grow by 5% in the first six months of its financial year from the same period last year, to 627 million euros, corresponding to a market share of service revenues of 39%, a gain of 2 p.p. in the past year. Vodafone Portugal total revenues amounted to 681 million euros in the six months to 30 September 2006.
Vodafone Portugal attracted 305 thousand new customers in the first half of 2006, achieving a market share of new customers of 52%. As a result of an extraordinary adjustment arising from the standardisation of the criterion for counting inactive prepaid customers (145 thousand), the reported figure for net additions is 160 thousand in the first half of 2006, corresponding to a total customer base of 4.437 million customers as at 30 September 2006.
The Vodafone Group today announced a rise in its worldwide customer base to 191.6 million customers (proportional), and total turnover of 15.6 billion pounds in the six months ended on 30 September 2006. As at that date, the Vodafone Group had a presence in 26 countries and 33 partner networks.
