Vodafone Foundation promotes environmental activities in the Formosa estuary

Lisbon, 3 August 2006 – Until the end of August, the Vodafone Portugal Foundation is promoting a programme of environmental awareness and protection of the unique ecology of the Formosa estuary.

Entitled ‘Long Live the Estuary’, the programme is being implemented in partnership with the League for the Protection of nature (LPN), Santa Luzia Parish Council and the company A Vida é Bela. Its aim is to raise environmental awareness and provide environmental education to children, young people and adults through fun and educational activities that combine amusement, camaraderie and leisure.

The programme aims particularly to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the Formosa estuary’s natural riches and traditional activities through workshops and free boat trips led by biologists.

The workshops will take place at Terra Estreita beach, from where the boat trips will also depart. In parallel, the project aims to improve access to and facilities on the beach for free use by people with special needs.

Information on the times of the workshops and boat trips, co-ordinated with the tides, is posted on Terra Estreita beach. The beach lies opposite Santa Luzia parish, in the municipality of Tavira.
