Mobile School

Ministry of Education and Vodafone Foundation join forces on teaching project for travelling families

Lisbon, 25 September 2006 – The Vodafone Portugal Foundation and the Innovation and Curriculum Development Directorate of the Ministry of Education today signed a co-operation agreement on the Mobile School project.

The Mobile School is a distance learning experience for the children of travelling families, in particular circus workers and market traders; its objective is to ensure that they have access to and continuity in, and complete elementary education, thereby helping to guarantee the right of all children to education and equality of opportunity.

Through the use of modern networked information and communication technologies and the use of an online learning platform and mobile technologies, these pupils will have a useful, innovative means of access to school programmes. The pupils and teachers will be in constant contact through the online learning platform run by the Ministry of Education.

This partnership will make it possible for around 20 children in the 3rd cycle of elementary education (7th, 8th and 9th grades) to continue their education. The support of the Vodafone Portugal Foundation consists of the donation of 3G Broadband cards and all calls during the academic year.
