Lisbon, 26 December 2007 – Vodafone processed 413 million SMS between 21 and 25 December, an all-time record for the number of text messages processed on its network over the Christmas period and an increase of 52% on the same period last year.

In fact, Vodafone’s text messaging service surpassed 2000 text messages processed per second during the peak period, which occurred between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. of 24 December.

In spite of the high volumes of traffic over the Christmas period, the processing of voice calls and delivery of text messages ran totally smoothly on the Vodafone network. Recent capacity increases on the voice network and the doubling of the capacity of the SMS (text messaging) platform contributed to this.
