Vodafone brings Charity at Christmas to children and senior citizens

Lisbon, 14 December 2009 – Vodafone’s Charity at Christmas initiative is bringing happiness this year to children and senior citizens in various cities in Portugal. In Estoril, the beneficiaries of the initiative will be the children of the Casa da MIMAR children’s home. In Setúbal and Porto, the party will be for senior citizens in local institutions for the elderly.

In Estoril, Casa da MIMAR, which cares for children at risk up to 6 years old, will receive furniture for all its rooms and other materials needed to ensure the wellbeing of these children who are separated from their families. The Casa, whose construction Vodafone has been supporting since Christmas 2004, will be ready to open at the end of this month. The building contains a bedroom area, rooms for activities and work, dining room, kitchen, storeroom area and offices.

Vodafone will also be celebrating the festive season by bringing Christmas cheer to the elderly. Tomorrow, Wednesday, in Setúbal, around 150 senior citizens from local institutions will sit down together to enjoy Christmas lunch and an afternoon’s entertainment, complete with a visit from Father Christmas. Dozens of Vodafone Portugal employees will be volunteering to help with the initiative, which is now in its second consecutive year.

On Thursday 16 December, Vodafone’s Charity at Christmas initiative moves to Porto to join senior citizens at the Olival and Lever Day Centres. The festive lunch will be held at Vodafone’s recently opened building in Avenida da Boavista with the help of Vodafone Portugal employees.
