Vodafone and Universal take U2’s biggest fan to London to watch the band’s exclusive showcase concert

Lisbon, 19 February 2009 –Vodafone and Universal are to offer U2’s biggest fan the unique opportunity to be present at the recording of an exclusive radio session by the Irish band in London on 27 February.

In yet another Vodafone Take Off initiative, the Vodafone customer who buys the most U2 ringtones, RingDings and complete music tracks on the Vodafone live! portal by 24 February will get the chance to take a friend and enjoy a ringside seat as the band performs a short concert to showcase its new disc ‘No Line On The Horizon’, which hits the shops on 2 March and marks the return of U2.

Composed and recorded in various locations, ‘No Line On The Horizon’ is the group’s 12th studio album and its first release since the highly successful album ‘How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb’, released in 2004, which sold over 9 million copies.

Formed in 1976, U2 is composed of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jnr, and for the production of this album they have called on their long time collaborators Brian Eno and Danny Lanois, with additional backing from Steve Lillywhite.

During their three decades in the industry, U2 have sold over 140 million albums around the world and received many Gold, Platinum and Diamond discs as well as many other awards – the most of any band. They have received seven BRIT Awards including Best International Group, Best Live Act and the special award for Outstanding Contribution to Music in 2001.

This initiative with U2 is part of the series of Vodafone Take Off initiatives designed to offer unique experiences to Vodafone customers and their friends by enabling them to participate in major music events abroad. Further information about the U2 Take Off is available at www.vodafone.pt.
