Portuguese Red Cross and Vodafone Portugal launch Mobile TeleAssistance service

Lisbon, 31 March 2009 – The Portuguese Red Cross and Vodafone Portugal today jointly launched Mobile TeleAssistance, a 24-hour hotline service designed to improve the quality of life, health and safety of its users.

Mobile Remote Assistance offers help in urgent or emergency situations using devices that are carried by users as they go about their daily lives so that they can obtain rapid help, where and when they need it.

The devices supplied as part of the service are equipped with GSM and GPS technologies, ensuring efficient communication and localisation of the user when he or she presses the alarm button.

The hotline is manned by specialist, experienced Portuguese Red Cross staff who are trained in first aid, emergency procedures and social work.

In addition to providing help in urgent or emergency situations, this groundbreaking service will also provide support to users in situations of loneliness and in their daily routine. It will also offer home visits by a doctor as an option.

Subscription to Mobile Remote Assistance can be obtained from the Portuguese Red Cross for 26 euros a month, which includes unlimited calls to the Call Centre.
