Vodafone launches Multiplayer Games and gives away Messenger Millionaire prizes

Lisbon, 23 March 2009 – Following the latest developments in mobile phones, which are increasingly mutating from mere communication tools to true entertainment devices, Vodafone is now offering games that enable users to compete against each other using Bluetooth technology.

Users can compete against each other at a distance of up to 10 metres, provided they have the game installed on their mobile phones. Examples of this multiplayer interactivity are games like Bisca, Sueca, Sobe e Desce and Hearts, which can be played by 2 to 4 players simultaneously on different mobile phones.

When there are no other players nearby, any of the games can be played alone.

These new generation games are available in the regularly updated ‘Multiplayer Games’ category of the Games channel of the Vodafone live! portal, where they join over 500 games of various categories offered by Vodafone.

At the same time, Vodafone is organising the ’Messenger Millionaire’ competition with prizes of 3000 euros each for three winners. The value of the prize is equivalent to the time required to send or receive 1,000,000 (one million) messages.

Participants must be customers of Vodafone Messenger – an innovative mobile communications service for exchanging instant messages on mobile phones with Windows Live Messenger contacts in the same way as on a computer – and exchange messages with their contacts by this means for the duration of the competition.

The competition will run until 17 April and consists of an online game at www.vodafone.pt/main/Particulares/Servicos/Mensagens/Vodafone Messenger.htm, in which contestants have several chances to line up three matching emoticons. The winners will be those who obtain the three highest scores.
