Mário Vaz is the new CEO of Vodafone Portugal

Mário Vaz became the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vodafone Portugal on 1 September. Mário Vaz, until now Chief Commercial Officer - Consumer, takes over from António Coimbra who became CEO of Vodafone Spain on the same date.

Mário Vaz, 50, joined Telecel, later to become Vodafone, as Major Accounts Manager when the operator began commercial activity in 1992. He occupied various positions in the company before being appointed Director of Operational Marketing in 1994. In 1999 he became Director of the Corporate Business Unit, then Director of the Consumer Business Unit and in September 2009 joined the Board of Directors as Chief Commercial Officer – Consumer.

A Law graduate from the University of Lisbon, he now takes on the challenge of Chief Executive of Vodafone Portugal in a year when the company celebrates 20 years of service to the public with 6.2 million customers, and is the most admired company in the telecommunications sector and one of the most admired in Portugal, and a leader in innovation, brand image and customer satisfaction and orientation.

The role of Chief Commercial Officer – Consumer will be filled by Emanuel Sousa. Emanuel Sousa, who has worked for Vodafone since 1992, played various roles in Vodafone Portugal’s Marketing area until 1999, when he moved to the Corporate Unit Business as Marketing Director. In 2003, he joined the Consumer Business Unit where he was Marketing Director and more recently Vodafone Shops Director.
