IPST and Vodafone Portugal Foundation launch interactive ‘Donor’ platform

Managing relationships with donors using new technologies

An innovative ‘Donor’ platform which appeals for blood donations vie technology and social networks was unveiled today at the Lisbon Blood and Transplantation Centre (Pulido Valente Hospital).

Developed from scratch by the Vodafone Portugal Foundation in partnership with the Portuguese Blood and Transplantation Institute (IPST), the ‘Donor’ platform can be accessed via an app for Android and iOS smartphones or via the website darsangue.pt and on Facebook and provides information about the state of the nation’s blood reserves, the most needed blood groups at any given time and the nearest locations for giving blood.

The platform provides continuous and more efficient interaction between IPST and current donors, enabling them to register, configure specific alerts and set direct notifications in the event of low stocks of the donor’s blood type.

In the event of urgent need for a particular blood type, as in the case of accidents or disasters, the platform also enables IPST to send an alert to the entire base of registered users compatible with the blood group needed.

The platform also has the facility to communicate with and involve the entire population who are not yet donors and to inform the general public about the general health conditions for giving blood. Where donors meet such conditions, the platform indicates when and where they can give blood based on their location and even offers the option to describe the route to the selected blood donation location.

In addition, the platform provides useful information about giving blood and interesting information about blood and blood groups.
