Vodafone Labs Lisbon
Vodafone Portugal today unveiled its new project to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the telecommunications industry in the country – Vodafone Labs Lisbon.
In a collaborative and innovative work ecosystem designed for the creation and growth of businesses, Vodafone aims to give communities of developers and Portuguese start-ups the opportunity to develop innovative businesses locally and globally outside the established business community.
To do this, it has created a programme called Vodafone Power Lab which will operate within its incubator, Vodafone Labs Lisbon, through which it will offer a range of exclusive benefits for the creation of entrepreneurial projects. This initiative follows the consolidation of a number of activities that Vodafone has developed in this area such as Vodafone Mobile Clicks and Lisbon BIG Apps.
Two projects that have resulted from these initiatives and which are already being incubated at this facility are wiRide (the Lisbon BIG Apps Winner which developed a ride sharing app) and bioM (the Mobile Data Challenge Winner which created a wearable gadget that allows users to control devices by their own gestures).
With the aim of discovering further developers and entrepreneurs who are interested in developing new technological applications for the telecommunications industry, Vodafone is inviting applications by 23 March. The projects will be supported at all stages including after their market launch.
The selection criteria favour projects that build on the capabilities of high speed mobile networks (4G and UMTS 900), present concepts aimed at the end consumer and have formats that innovate in the use of mobile devices.
