Recognised with an award by the international television science fair VerCiência2013, “This is Mathematics” is an excellently produced programme for public understanding of science presenting mathematics topics in an easy-going and fun way.

The impact of the first edition of “This is Mathematics” went far beyond that of the television broadcasts as it was also used as teaching material in classrooms, not only in Portugal but also in Brazil and El Salvador. The first series was also translated into English by the European Mathematical Society and published on the portal mathematics-in-europe.eu.

After the success of the previous series, the programme is now set to re-appear with new topics and many new features. It will continue to be broadcast on Saturdays, presented by the mathematician Rogério Martins.

About the Portuguese Mathematical Society

The Portuguese Mathematical Society (SPM) is an association dedicated to the promotion and development of the teaching of mathematics, and mathematics research in Portugal.
