Vodafone Portugal maintains upward trend during Q2

During the second quarter of the fiscal year 2019-2020, from July to September, Vodafone Portugal continued to grow in the main business indicator, Service Revenue, mainly driven by the good performance in fixed and mobile businesses.

Service Revenue reached 254 million euros, which represents a growth rate of 5.3% considering the same period last year. In the same quarter, total revenue increased 5.4% YoY, reaching 280 million euros.

Considering the six-monthly review, between April and September, the main operational indicators maintained the positive trend. Service Revenue reached 492 million euros (+4.3% YoY) while total revenue grew 4.4 % YoY to 541 million euros.

The performance achieved in Q2 was supported by the continuous double-digit fixed line growth. During this period, the total fixed customer base increased 10.4% YoY reaching 756 thousand, of which 646 thousand are TV customers (11.7%YoY). Vodafone Portugal is effectively expanding its footprint reaching 3.3 million homes and businesses with fibre.

Q2 results were also driven by the good performance of mobile business, which maintained a steady pace under a very competitive environment. Mobile customer base reached 4.9 million customers, which represents an increase of 2.6% when compared with the same period last year.

The results presented today confirm the consistency of our convergence and customer focus strategy, as well as the effort and excellence of this team. We continue to register double-digit growth in fixed business, what proves that customers recognise the quality of our service and the competitiveness of our offer, while the good results achieved in mobile business allows us to maintain a significant position in this segment ”, says Mário Vaz, Vodafone Portugal CEO.

The launch of the new Vodafone TV, in July, was one of the important milestones of Q2. The new Vodafone TV offers a complete and innovative experience, totally oriented towards the customer preferences. Some of the differentiating features of the new Vodafone TV include intelligent voice search, an interface that is more user-friendly, intuitive and intelligent, and a special area for kids, with sophisticated parental control.

With this launch, Vodafone strengthens its leadership position as a supplier of the best television experience in Portugal, addressing new user habits for television content.

Vodafone Portugal is committed in providing innovative service to its customers and in July, it became the first television operator in Portugal to present a set of public services available from the TV screen. Vodafone customers can now access a set of services from various public entities, in a simple and convenient way, through an app available on the new Vodafone TV.

Reinforcing its role as a leader in innovation, Vodafone Portugal achieved another important milestone towards the implementation of 5G. In partnership with a national TV station, Vodafone performed the first 5G holographic transmission in real time. During the live broadcast of the evening news, the TV host was teleported from the studio in Lisbon to more than 400 km away, through Vodafone’s 5G network. This innovative moment proves that Vodafone´s 5G network is ready, once the launch moment is set.

Also during Q2, Vodafone launched RED Infinity - the first tariff in Portugal with unlimited calls, SMS and mobile data. With this offer, Vodafone Portugal anticipates the communication needs of 5G and guarantees that customers can make the most of Vodafone´s network of excellence.
