Telecel unveils plans for its new headquarters

Telecel yesterday unveiled plans for its new company headquarters in Lisbon. The offices will be located in the Parque das Nações, where Expo98 took place, near to the Pavilion of Portugal. The new Telecel headquarters, that will be finished by the middle of 2002, are being designed by architects Alexander Burmester and José Carlos Gonçalves, who were winners of a competition launched by the company a year ago.

António Vaz Branco, Telecel’s Vice-President for Special Projects, said “We want the new Telecel headquarters to be not just one of the most important buildings in Parque das Nações, but also in City of Lisbon, which seems to be proven by the quality of the project.”

Alexander Burmester, said that the new headquarters of Telecel “will have a great urban scale of insertion in Parque das Nações, a scale of street with its neighbourhood, another scale in the interior with the spaces which creates, and finally, other different scales to who inhabits in it. The building uses the transparencies of the spaces created as small borders between its public and private spaces.”

Telecel headquarters will be built next to Gare do Oriente facing the Pavilion of Portugal, with the Alameda dos Oceanos to the South and Avenida D. João II on the North. The building will cover 35,000 m2 above ground level.
