Vodafone gives away tickets to Rock in Rio

Lisbon, 5 March 2008 – Vodafone, the official sponsor of the Rock In Rio Lisbon 2008 Festival, is to display the countdown to the start of the event on three giant counters in the shape of guitars – two in Lisbon, on the Segunda Circular and in Praça de Espanha, and the third in Praça do Molhe, Avenida de Montevideu, Oporto.

As with the 2006 Festival, each guitar will be seven metres high by three metres wide, and the countdown of days remaining until the start of the Festival will be displayed on a Led panel measuring 450 cm by 60 cm.

Real guitars, as well as other instruments, will provide music that will be played live between 3 and 5 March at the Oporto Metro stations of Bolhão, Campo 24 de Agosto and Casa da Música. After Oporto, it will be the turn of the Lisbon Metro to host the Live & Go! musical duels:

10 March: Gare do Oriente, at 1 pm and 6 pm
11 March: Terreiro do Paço, at 8:30 am, 1 pm and 6 pm
12 March: Cais do Sodré, at 8:30 am, 1 pm and 6 pm
13 March: Cais do Sodré, at 8:30 am, 1 pm and 6 pm
14 March: Alameda, at 8:30 am, 1 pm and 6 pm

The band will provide the backing for singing duels between two contestants at a time who will be invited to sing a number of their choice selected from a list of songs by artists who will perform at Rock in Rio Lisbon 2008. The winner will be decided by the organisers on the basis of the loudness of the applause by spectators, with the prize of a ticket to Rock in Rio.

Through sponsorship of this event, Vodafone is associating itself with the most important music event in Portugal in 2008 and continuing its practice of linking the brand to major music events in Portugal, as it has done with all previous editions of Rock in Rio Lisbon (in 2004 and 2006) and with the MTV Europe Music Awards Lisbon 2005.

Vodafone’s support for music in Portugal is further reinforced by its Vodafone Music project, which designs and produces original, innovative music events such as Flash Concerts, Vodafone House Party and Vodafone SoundClash!, and by other initiatives linked to the music scene organised over recent years such as exclusive pre-launches of various artists (Linkin Park, Shakira, Boss AC, among others) on the Vodafone live! portal, exclusive, intimate concerts by Portuguese artists and ‘Take offs’, a format that offers Vodafone customers the opportunity to travel to music events outside Portugal.
