Portuguese winner of Vodafone App Star competition wins international first prize

Lisbon, 25 May 2010 – After winning the Vodafone App Star competition in Portugal, 26-year-old Portuguese programmer Pedro Campos, the creator of the FlickrShow application, was the overall winner of the pan-European grand final, where he won €75,000, giving him total prize money of €100,000 in the two rounds of the competition.

The winning Apps in the national competitions held in eight countries (Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the UK) competed in this last round. The Portuguese application obtained the most votes in the public voting which was open until the end of the day on 21 May.

The FlickrShow App allows users to search for and view Flickr photos on their mobile phone using search criteria such as keywords, user name, predominant colours and location as detected by the phone’s GPS module. This application is now available for download from the Apps Shop directly to mobile phones or from www.360.com.

To date, the App Star competition has awarded a total of half a million euros in prizes, confirming Vodafone’s decision to motivate and encourage the community of independent developers to participate in the design of Apps for the Vodafone 360 service.

It has also demonstrated that the developer community in Portugal, in addition to achieving high standards of quality and innovation in their projects, is increasingly becoming known worldwide.
