Vodafone launches innovative SMS reminders for Facebook birthdays

Lisbon, 17 January 2011 – Starting today, Vodafone Portugal is offering an innovative SMS birthday reminder service. This useful and pioneering service, exclusive to Portugal, allows Vodafone customers to receive an SMS reminder on the mornings of all their Facebook friends’ birthdays.

Activation of the reminder service can be effected by sending a free SMS to 12345 with the text ‘ANIV’ or via Vodafone All Posts – the only mobile service that provides a single access point to the social networks most used by the Portuguese. The service is available to all Vodafone customers who have a mobile phone with Internet access.

Any customer who has a Facebook account and who activates this Vodafone reminder service will receive reminders by SMS on the mornings of their friends’ birthdays.

The SMS reminders are free until the end of February 2011. After this promotional period each SMS received will cost 10 cents.

With this launch, Vodafone is further strengthening its focus on developing services for social networks and on mobile-PC convergence, enabling its customers to use the services they value most irrespective of the way they access them.
