Vodafone Portugal launches first 4G/LTE-ready device

Lisbon, 16 June 2011 – Tomorrow Vodafone starts to sell the Vodafone Connect Pen K5005 in Portugal – the first Mobile Broadband device capable of supporting the new 4G/LTE technology.

In addition to being a 4G-ready device prepared for future use with 4th Generation LTE Mobile technology, the Vodafone Connect Pen K5005 can already be used on Vodafone Portugal’s network since it supports download speeds up to 43.2 Mbps and upload speeds up to 11.2 Mbps. Vodafone is the only operator in Portugal to offer its customers a mobile broadband service at speeds up to 43.2 Mbps.

The Vodafone Connect Pen K5005 will be available in the Portuguese market from tomorrow at a price of €199.90 and can be used with any price plan of Vodafone’s Mobile Broadband service. It is compatible with 4G/LTE, HSPA (up to 43.2 Mbps), HSUPA, HSDPA and EDGE, GPRS and GSM 900/1800/1900MHz. It features a microSD card slot and Plug&Play and is compatible with Windows and MacOS.

This launch makes Vodafone the first operator in Portugal and one of the first operators in the world to launch a device readied for the future 4G/LTE network, maintaining its vanguard position in the provision of all the mobile data transmission technologies. In an initial phase, 4G/LTE technology will allow download speeds up to 150Mbps and upload speeds up to 50Mbps.
