Carlos Vaz Marques, Matilde Campilho, Pedro Mexia and Rui Cardoso Martins are the guests on Vodafone Vozes da Escrita which has its debut at Vodafone Paredes de Coura.

Vodafone Paredes de Coura continues to innovate and its twenty-third edition sees the launch of Vodafone Vozes da Escrita. On 20-22 August from 1:00 to 2:30 pm, the Jazz on the Lawn Stage will for the first time host famous authors such as Carlos Vaz Marques, Matilde Campilho, Pedro Mexia and Rui Cardoso Martins. During the three days, festivalgoers will have the opportunity to attend reading sessions (which could include poetry, excerpts from books, newspaper columns and stories) and informal conversations between the invited guests. Unique moments are expected to result, of the kind that can only happen at a festival as special as Vodafone Paredes de Coura.

Matilde Campilho, an exceptional phenomenon in modern Portuguese poetry and author of Jóquei, which has already run to four editions, opens Vodafone Vozes da Escrita on Thursday 20 August. The following day, Carlos Vaz Marques and Pedro Mexia, two of the most remarkable intellectual figures in journalism and literary writing and in the dissemination of culture and the arts in general, offer their thoughts from the stage on these and other topics, without reservation, in a dialogue between them and the audience. On Saturday 22 August, the closing day of Vodafone Vozes da Escrita falls to award-winning novelist Rui Cardoso Martins, co-founder of Produções Fictícias and journalist and columnist on O Público since its foundation. He wrote the Levante-se o Réu column for nearly 20 years, which has just been published in book form by Tinta-da-china, for which he received two Gazeta de Jornalismo Awards.

The first edition of Vodafone Vozes da Escrita is a partnership between Vodafone Paredes de Coura and the independent publisher Tinta-da-china, which since its foundation in 2005 has published over 300 titles and launched the Portuguese edition of the prestigious literary magazine Granta, edited by Carlos Vaz Marques. Bárbara Bulhosa’s publishing house, which celebrates its tenth anniversary on 1 November 2015, has received various national and international awards over the years, both for specific books and for Tinta-da-china’s graphic work.

Vodafone Paredes de Coura takes place at Taboão river beach on 19-22 August and the line-up includes names such as Tame Impala, TV On The Radio, The War On Drugs, Father John Misty, Temples and Lykke Li, among many others.
