Green Christmas - Caring for our Planet
Vodafone Portugal Foundation, Expresso newspaper, SIC TV and some familiar faces from the Portuguese television, joined efforts in a campaign to create ecological awareness and underline the importance of caring for our planet.
Vodafone employees were invited to bring their children to a TV Studio where they had the opportunity to take part in the recording of 10 stories told by famous TV celebrities, each one with a different message suggesting ways of living the Christmas festivities with a more ecological spirit. This has been aired in prime time by SIC television from December 13th until December 24.
Spin-offs of this initiative are a book, a CD with the stories’ narratives and a musical theme named "A gift to the planet", played by André Sardet, a well-known Portuguese singer. All these products were sold in-pack with the Express newspaper, for just 1 additional euro, contributing not only to Mother Nature but also to a Paediatric Hospital (Hospital D. Estefânia), namely to restore and paint the windows and corridors of one hospital aisle.
Story Translation:
DO NOT DISCARD THE OLD PHONE
Santa Claus was thrilled. This Christmas children decided to give Santa Claus a gift. A little package, nicely done, with a huge red bow wrapped around it. The box had a card saying:
"Dear Santa,
We’ve heard that your phone is broken and you are missing several calls, so we are offering you a new one.
Merry Christmas!“
Santa Claus was feeling so anxious, that he quickly cut the tie, tore the paper out and unwrapped the gift. He looked at the new phone and said:
- It's fantastic! So modern!
Looking at the old phone he decided to throw it in the bin.
Suddenly, a voice begins to speak:
- Pssst, Pssst.
Santa Claus looked up, down, everywhere, but could not realize who was calling.
It was the dustbin that, quietly, told him:
- Dear Santa Claus, you made a mistake. You cannot.... You're an example to everyone. You cannot throw your phone into the dustbin, even if if it is old and rotten!
- Really? - Asked a surprised Santa Claus
- Yeah - said the bin. - But look, if you promise to take it to a Vodafone shop for recycling this will be our secret.
- Oh oh oh. It’s a promise!
