Telecel introduces cellular broadcast in Portugal with free information about Expo

Telecel offers daily information about Expo and its activities, through two new services: Cellular Broadcast Service, with free access to information in text format broadcasted by the network, and “1598 – Expo information”, allowing to get detailed data about main events, such as prices, means of transportation, and parking facilities among other.

Cellular Broadcast Service uses a very recent technology, being Telecel one of the first operators in Europe to use it. It consists in message sending under the broadcasting form for selected geographical areas (from one sending point to many receivers). Any Customer within the broadcast area receives these messages, as long as it has activated the service in its telephone and the telephone supports cellular broadcast.

Technology now introduced by Telecel will provide customers with information, general or local, about specific themes, broadcasted in different channels with the possibility of creating contents according with the geographic area of the Customer location. On this phase, service will be available in Expo and surrounding areas, and information is broadcasted through channel number 1.

Foreign visitors roaming in Portugal can also receive cellular broadcast messages, if registered in Telecel network.

For complete information, Telecel also provides service “1598 – Expo Information”, specially created for this occasion.

General access number to this service, available in the whole country, is 1598, if the call is made from Telecel network, or 0931 1598, for calls made from other national networks. Once the communication is established, customer can choose to listen to the requested information in Portuguese, Spanish or English.

If the call is made from Telecel network, it is possible to directly access main menu of the chosen language, dialling 15891 for Portuguese, 15982 for Spanish, and 15983 for english. Customers from foreign mobile operators roaming in Portugal, will have the same facility as long as the call is made from Telecel network, being access calls to this service rated at the regular tariffs for calls made to the Telecel network.
