20,000 children join in the ‘Champions’ Summer’ run by the Vodafone Portugal Foundation and ISN

Lisbon, 11 October 2006 – Around 20,000 children aged 3-13 took part in the ‘Champions’ Summer’ programme organised by the Vodafone Portugal Foundation and the Lifeboat Institution (ISN). Held on 41 beaches throughout Portugal between June and August, the initiative was designed to raise children’s awareness of safety and environmental rules in bathing areas.

During the 41 days of the programme, which had a budget of 100,000 euros, 16,000 information leaflets and over 6000 gifts were distributed to children, including 1800 sunhats, 1253 T-shirts and 696 play buckets.

During this period, the children took part in a wide range of educational and fun activities which included the Champions’ Course (15-minute theoretical lessons about safety rules and good environmental practices), the Champions’ Theatre, the Champions’ Game, the Inflatable and the Recycling Game.
