Vodafone Rally of Portugal in World Rally Championship

Lisbon, 13 November 2006 – Vodafone is to sponsor the 2007 Rally of Portugal, an event in the World Rally Championship, under a partnership agreement with the Automóvel Clube de Portugal, the organisers of the rally.

Thanks to this partnership to organise the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, Portugal will return to the World Rally Championship calendar after an absence of 5 years in an association between one of the most prominent brands in Portuguese motor sport and Portugal’s biggest motoring organisation.

Admitted to the World Rally Championship for the first time in 1973, the Rally de Portugal remained part of the calendar of events until 2001, during which time it was five times voted Best Rally in the World.

The success of this initiative also owes much to the support of the Portuguese Motor Racing and Karting Federation (FPAK), the Portuguese Government and the Algarve Regional Tourist Board, among others.

Vodafone’s sponsorship of the competition fits with its tradition of supporting motor sport, in particular motor racing (Formula 1, Rallies, Off Road and Speed) and motor cycle racing.

Vodafone will have a presence at all the events in next year’s Rally of Portugal, which will take place in the Algarve from 29 March to 1 April 2007.

The ACP is a public institution founded over 100 years ago, with over 190,000 members. Its main purpose is the promotion of motoring, motor cycling and tourism.
