Baptista Bastos wins João Carreira Bom Prize for Columnists

Lisbon, 27 March 2006 – The CEO of Vodafone, António Carrapatoso, today presented the João Carreira Bom Prize for Newspaper Columnists to journalist and writer Armando Baptista Bastos for his columns published in 2005.

Instituted by the Sociedade da Língua Portuguesa and the website Ciberdúvidas da Língua Portuguesa, the prize, awarded this year for the third time, aims to preserve and promote this style of journalism by honouring the best columnist of the year. Vodafone supports the Prize with sponsorship of five thousand euros, which goes to the winner.

The judging panel for this year’s João Carreira Bom Prize was chaired by university professor and writer Urbano Tavares Rodrigues and also included the President of the Sociedade da Língua Portuguesa, Elsa Rodrigues dos Santos, her vice-president, José Manuel Matias, and journalists Maria José Mauperrin, Fernando Dacosta and José Gabriel Viegas – the last of these representing Vodafone.
