Vodafone to build snow piste for Yorn Snow Race

Lisbon, 13 March 2007 – At 3 p.m. on 17 March, 15 teams of five people will take part in the Yorn Snow Race at Parque das Nações in Lisbon with the aim of winning the prize of a week’s skiing/snowboarding holiday in Andorra to be given away by Vodafone.

The race will take place on a 100-metre long snow piste erected in front of the Vasco da Gama shopping centre, and takes its inspiration from mushing, the famous husky-drawn sled races that originated in Alaska at the beginning of the 20th century. The piste will be made of 600 m2 of snow manufactured specially for the event, a process that will take around 12 hours.

In this race, four team members will play the part of the huskies and pull the sled, which will be driven by the fifth member, who must be a woman. To increase the difficulty of the challenge, the four participants who pull the sled will be dressed in imitation dog suits.

The participants have been chosen from hundreds of people who have registered on the Yorn website, confirming the brand’s close identification with its target group and the success of the irreverent one-off activities it has been organising.
