New Vodafone BackUp service enables users to back up their mobile phone address books

Lisbon, 16 July 2007 – Vodafone has just launched a new service enabling its customers to back up their mobile phone address books with Vodafone. With this service, Vodafone customers can recover their address book when they change their mobile phone, or it is repaired or even lost.

The address book is saved in Vodafone BackUp and can be managed online in the MyVodafone area at www.vodafone.pt. On this website, customers can add, change or delete saved contacts and synchronise them with their Microsoft Outlook contacts.

To save and recover their address books, customers need to access the menu on their phone and select the synchronisation function. This function updates the information in the address book in the phone and in Vodafone BackUp, merging the two lists into one.

Customers can try out the service at no cost. The first synchronisation with the mobile phone is free, as are all those carried out in the following 3 months. After this period, the cost is 39 cents per synchronisation (including VAT).

Vodafone BackUp also enables users to choose on the website which contacts should appear on the phone and search all contacts by sending an SMS. It is therefore possible at any time to search a large list of friends, family members, suppliers or customers without having to store all the information on the phone.

Customers can also associate each contact with a Birthday Alert, which will be received by SMS, so that customers never forget their contacts’ birthdays. The service also enables users to download the games, ringtones or images that they purchased on the Vodafone live! portal.

The synchronisation operations are available immediately to around 600,000 Vodafone Portugal customers. The list of compatible phones will be extended so as to very quickly broaden the number of customers who are able to use the Vodafone BackUp service. The other functions of the service, such as searches by SMS and synchronisation with Microsoft Outlook are available on any model of mobile phone.
