Vodafone sums up first month’s communications for the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union

Lisbon, 30 July 2007 – Vodafone has given a highly positive report on its first month of managing the communications services for the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

During the period 1 to 30 July, Vodafone provided all the communications for the various meetings of the Presidency held in the Permanent Meetings Venue (the Pavilhão Atlântico in Lisbon) and in Oporto, Guimarães, Estoril and Belém Cultural Centre.

Internet services were provided at all meetings, using mobile and fixed network technologies such as dedicated lines, Wi-Fi and 3G/UMTS. Voice and fax services were provided through Vodafone’s fixed voice and mobile voice services. The various data solutions provided included ISDN lines and the Vodafone BlackBerry mobile e-mail service.

Between 1 and 30 July at the meeting venues, Vodafone processed around 160,000 minutes and over 320 GB of data traffic on its network with a call setup success rate of 99.99%, demonstrating the high reliability and availability of the services provided.

Vodafone’s investment in convergent fixed-mobile solutions has enabled it to respond in record time to the varied requirements associated with events of this kind. The solutions supplied and the associated management and monitoring provided an excellent response capacity to a project in which flexibility and the need to create and implement solutions in a short space of time are essential.

In this project, Vodafone is once again demonstrating its high level of capability to create and implement business communications solutions, from the simplest to the most demanding, that match market needs.
