Vodafone launches competition for mobile phone applications with prizes totalling €32,500
Lisbon, 29 April 2009 Vodafone Portugal today launched the Vodafone Apps Competition to stimulate the invention and development of small applications for mobile phones (Apps) in Portugal. The competition is open to any individual, with prizes for the best 5 Apps.
The prizes will be 20,000 for the best App, 5,000 for 2nd place and 2,500 for each of the 3rd, 4th and 5th places. In addition to the monetary prizes, Vodafone will also underwrite the commercial launch of the selected Apps and the promotion of the top rated App.
Apps are a new way of accessing Internet content from mobile phones. They are small applications developed on standard Web technologies that are installed on the mobile phone and are able to obtain information from the Internet or simply function with local content. Vodafone will shortly launch an online shop where customers will be able to obtain Apps for their phones.

This competition is part of a new initiative by Vodafone designed to make the way its customers access various types of content and the Internet from their mobile phones easier and more interesting.
