Vodafone Portugal launches first multi-platform Video Club

Lisbon, 4 October 2010 – Vodafone has released the Video Club of its digital television service for computers and mobile phones, making it possible for the first time in Portugal to rent and watch the same film on 3 screens: Television (TV Box), PC and mobile phone.

This launch makes watching films a truly integrated and multi-platform experience for Vodafone Casa TV customers. For example, it will allow customers to rent and start watching a film on their PC, mobile phone or television, and then watch the rest of it later on any of these mediums at no extra cost.

Furthermore, this launch brings the Vodafone Video Club to all the other Vodafone Customers, who can now access the service through their PC and mobile phone.

The new online Video Club, available on the Vodafone site at www.vodafone.pt, shows films in High Definition (HD) and continually adapts to the bandwidth available, always making sure of the best possible quality of image. To access the service customers just need to register free of charge in My Vodafone.

The service is available via mobile phone on Vodafone 360 Samsung H1 and M1 and Nokia Series 60 phones and will soon be widened to other smartphones.

Among the array of films already available are recent successes such as ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and ‘Where the Wild Things Are’, animation hits such as ‘Corpse Bride’ and ‘Happy Feet’ and classics such as ‘Casablanca’ and ‘Gone with the Wind’. The Video Club of Vodafone Casa TV now has more than 1000 films available, including recent successes, blockbusters and High Definition films.

This launch will strengthen Vodafone’s leadership in innovative digital television services in Portugal and in the convergence of services between platforms.

The Vodafone Casa TV service provides around 120 television channels (including 14 High Definition channels and one 3D channel) and a Basic Package with over 70 channels that includes Portugal’s most popular channels. It has advanced functionalities such as a Digital Recorder (with remote recording via PC or mobile phone), TV schedule, Pause TV, Play-back TV and also unique services such as recording of programmes in any TV Box at no extra charge and the ‘Vai passar na TV’ feature which enables the viewer to see programmes that have not yet been broadcast.
