Vodafone installs ‘Rock in Rio’ guitars in Lisbon and Porto

Lisbon, 23 February 2010 – Vodafone Portugal, as sponsor of the Rock in Rio–Lisboa Festival, is installing three countdown displays in the form of ‘giant guitars’ – two in Lisbon, on the 2ª Circular and at Praça de Espanha, and one in Porto in Praça do Molhe, Avenida de Montevideu. This is the third time that the Vodafone has taken this initiative to promote the world’s biggest music and entertainment event in Portugal’s two largest cities.

In addition to the countdown to the opening of the gates of the City of Rock 2010, the guitars will show information about the line-up for the event and initiatives by Vodafone to enable fans to win tickets to Rock in Rio-Lisboa.

The guitars will be in place from tomorrow, 24 February, in Lisbon and from 25 February in Porto.

Each of the displays weighs 9 tonnes and is 7 metres tall by 3 metres wide, and displays the number of days to go until the start of the event. The guitars are made from fibreglass and polyester resin. They are painted red and have stainless steel strings and 450 cm by 60 cm LED panels.

Through its sponsorship of this event, which fits with the brand’s communication and positioning strategy, Vodafone is repeating its association with the most important music event in Portugal in 2010 and continuing its practice of linking the brand to major music events in Portugal, as it did with previous Rock in Rio-Lisboa festivals (in 2004, 2006 and 2008) and with the MTV Europe Music Awards Lisbon 2005.

Rock in Rio-Lisboa will take place on 21, 22, 27, 29 and 30 May in Bela Vista Park in Lisbon. Artists such as Shakira, John Mayer, Ivete Sangalo, Snow Patrol, Muse, Rammstein and others have already been confirmed.
