Vodafone launches Internet connection sharing solution and cuts the price of Mobile Broadband to €29.90

Lisbon, 6 July 2010 – Vodafone today launched two new Mobile Broadband devices: the Vodafone Sharing Dock, priced at €29.90, for sharing data connections and the Vodafone Connect Pen K3571, also €29.90 in the prepaid version without any commitment, which represents a 25% reduction in the entry price for Mobile Broadband equipment.

With the Vodafone Sharing Dock all that is needed is to plug in a Vodafone Connect Pen in order to share a 3G connection via Wi-Fi with multiple devices or users.

With the daily increase in Wi-Fi enabled devices requiring a data connection for Internet access such as laptops, games consoles, mp3 players or tablets, it is becoming increasingly necessary to have solutions that enable the sharing of data connections at home, in the office or at school, for example.

With a single Mobile Broadband service (postpaid or prepaid), Vodafone Sharing Dock users can connect up to five devices in a simple and totally secure way. Vodafone Sharing Dock also has an Ethernet port for cable connections and DLNA support for sharing multimedia files on MicroSD cards linked to the Vodafone Connect Pen. The Sharing Dock is also one of the first devices of its kind to implement the dual stream n standard, thereby increasing the Wi-Fi transfer speed and range (802.11 b/g/n dual stream n).

The launch of the Vodafone Sharing Dock reduces the entry price for this type of equipment to €29.90 (the devices currently on the market cost around €80), and joins the Vodafone Hotspot with battery and SIM card slot launched in October 2009 (no need for additional equipment).

The introduction of these devices reinforces Vodafone’s leadership in mobile broadband services in Portugal and continues its significant contribution to the information society by reducing the prices of mobile Internet access and rolling out new technologies.
