Vodafone Mexefest – Lisbon Winter Festival confirms new Portuguese and international bands and increases the number of venues

Further Portuguese and international bands were announced today for the Vodafone Mexefest music festival, which can be found at www.vodafonemexefest.com .

Drawing up the high quality, varied billing for this year’s edition is the responsibility of the Vodafone Mexefest Curatorial Committee, composed of Jwana Godinho (Música no Coração), Pedro Ramos (Radar), Isilda Sanches (Oxigénio) and Joaquim Albergaria (Vodafone FM).

The Vodafone Mexefest takes place on 7-8 December and this year has more venues and new initiatives that will enliven the area around Avenida da Liberdade in Lisbon. The price of tickets is unchanged at 40 euros and give access to all the concerts in all venues during the two-day festival.

In a festival focusing on new music, Vodafone aims to showcase bands that have not yet had their first break, which it will do via Vodafone Mexefest Casting. New bands (with no released disc) will be selected by a Vodafone FM committee. A shortlist of 10 will be chosen for the public to vote for on Facebook. The 8 bands with the most votes will get the chance to perform during festival afternoons. Bands can enter online at www.vodafonemexefest.com between 15 and 28 October.

Among the unique experiences that Vodafone will provide to the public is a private concert for the winners of the Vodafone 5 Stars competition, who will also win a hotel stay for two during the festival weekend. This initiative is joined by Vodafone All Access: a competition giving away passes for two with guaranteed entry to all venues, even if they are sold out.

Making their reappearance will be the Vodafone Shuttles, which will provide public transport between all the festival venues, and the Vodafone Bus – one of last year’s most successful music venues providing transport to the sound of new artists who are bursting onto the national scene. To hot things up further, Vodafone Moments will be giving away roasted chestnuts and hot chocolate at various points in downtown Lisbon.

To help the audience move between venues, Vodafone will once again be offering an app (for iOS and Android), with integration with Facebook, which allows users to check the main news and events, consult the concert billing (filtered by date, venue and artist), create a personalized schedule of concerts and share it, access useful information about the festival (including the location and availability of venues in real time), view comments on the various concerts, share photos and check the location of the Vodafone Bus, among other features.

In addition to the venues already announced – São Jorge Cinema, Teatro Tivoli BBVA, Cabaret Maxime, Casa do Alentejo, Igreja de São Luís dos Franceses and Lisbon Geographical Society – new venues this year include the Vodafone FM Station located in Rossio Rail Station, the Super Bock Super Rock Room (Ateneu Comercial de Lisboa), the Ritz Club, the Altis Avenida Hotel and, lastly, Starbucks, which will act as a starting point for the festival programme by holding concerts in the afternoons.
