Galgo and Flying Cages are the winners of Vodafone Band Scouting

The two bands that will join the line-up of Vodafone Mexefest and open the Vodafone FM Radio stage on 27 and 28 November, respectively, have been announced.

Galgo and Flying Cages were selected after performing in front of hundreds of people at Cais do Sodré Metro station last Friday. The jury, drawn from Música no Coração, Vodafone FM and the Pontiaq record label, highlighted the musical quality of both bands’ work and their originality and stage presence.

On 2 December the name of the winning band of Vodafone Band Scouting will be revealed, whose award will be the release of an album by the Pontiaq record label.

About Galgo:

They have only released one EP so far but the acclaim prompted by the concerts they have been giving and the songs on their first release make Galgo a band that promises to be a serious name in Portuguese music. All four of them are from Oeiras. And their names? Alexandre Sousa, João Figueiras, Miguel Figueiredo and Joana Batista. Seen live they are subversive virtuosi, playing a melodic geometry of faultless sounds that recalls psychedelia, math rock and other difficult to catalogue genres. Galgo already have a clear future.

About Flying Cages

Coimbra-born Zé Maria Costa, Rui Pedro Martins, Francisco Frutuoso and Bernardo Franco go by the name of Flying Cages. After the tributes earned by their “Nothing but the hill” on the Tradiio platform that have led to appearances at some of Portugal’s major venues, they are now preparing to release their first LP, “Lalochezia”. Creators of an independent and very catchy style of pop-rock, they promise to present many of the new songs that will make up their debut album.
