Caring is Vodafone’s Christmas Gift
Tomorrow, 11 December, 300 children will spend a memorable afternoon at Exponor in Porto, where they will have the opportunity to learn and have fun at a range of workshops and areas devoted to magic, science, technology, traditional games, music and dance and take pictures inside a snow globe, among many other surprises.
Yesterday, 9 December, Lisbon Congress Centre was full of games and activities to entertain 500 children aged 4 to 13, bringing the total to 800 children from 15 social care institutions this Christmas.
On 16 and 17 December, Vodafone Portugal will organise a voluntary sector fair at its Head Office in Lisbon involving six charities: the local development cooperative Terra Chã; the special needs charity BIPP – Inclusão para a Deficiência; CERCI Lisboa, a rehabilitation charity for the disabled; CERCICA – Cascais Cooperative for the Education and Rehabilitation of the Disabled; Raízes, helping children at risk; and Casa Grande – Institution for Young People with Asperger’s Syndrome. This event will enable the institutions to promote and sell their charity products, all the proceeds of which will go to support the institutions. By organising this fair, Vodafone seeks to interest its employees in the voluntary sector economy and make them aware of its importance.
Vodafone will also mark this festive season with a contribution to the Vida e Paz Community Christmas to be held in the Refectory of the University of Lisbon on 18 and 19 December, staffed by volunteering company employees, and the donation of 10 days’ mobile communications for the 90 or so volunteers involved.
Over the last 13 years of initiatives linked to the celebration of Christmas, the operator has totalled over 100 social care institutions helped, more than 1000 hampers donated, over 1000 senior citizens and 5000 smiling children, and more than 500 Vodafone employees involved in volunteering initiatives.
