Vodafone Foundation has presence at 2nd Wings for Life World Run Portugal

The Vodafone Foundation will have a presence at the second edition of the Wings for Life World Run Portugal, the only worldwide simultaneous race in history, which will unite 35 places on six continents on 3 May. The objective is run for those who can’t, so shortening the distance to a cure for spinal cord injuries.

Sharing the values of the Wings for Life Foundation, the Vodafone Foundation has decided to associate itself with the second edition of the Wings for Life World Run Portugal, the only worldwide simultaneous race in history that will unite 35 places on six continents under the motto “Run for those who can’t”. The start of the Portuguese race will take place in the gardens of the Crystal Palace in Porto, beginning a course that travels south via the River Douro and the Atlantic.

The aim is to raise funds for scientific research for a cure for spinal cord injuries, a condition which affects over three million people worldwide. Part of the funds raised in Portugal will go to SURFaddict, the association for surfing for the disabled.

This support is among the programmes that the Vodafone Foundation carries out in the health area, which include a cooperation agreement with the West Lisbon Hospitals group (CHLO) for the implementation of a paediatric epilepsy remote monitoring system at São Francisco Xavier and Egas Moniz Hospitals. Since 2009, this programme has contributed significantly to increasing the number and success rate of surgical interventions in children with epilepsy.
