Sail the Atlantic with Vodafone and the Portuguese Navy

As part of its Social Responsibility Programme, Vodafone has strengthened its partnership with the Portuguese Navy’s sail training ship ‘Sagres’, one of the most important representatives of national diplomacy, by launching a challenge which will give three young people the opportunity to embark on an Atlantic crossing aboard this ship.

To win a place on this adventure, participants must be Vodafone customers and correctly answer the questions posted by the operator on Facebook. The three winners of this competition, which is open until 10 May, will have the opportunity to take part in the Lisbon-Philadelphia, Philadelphia-Terceira and Terceira-Amsterdam crossings.

The selected participants will join the Naval Academy cadet group under instruction and will develop their leadership and teamwork skills, values that Vodafone shares with the Navy. The young participants will have a unique opportunity to join in carrying out the tasks of maintenance, preparation and sailing of the ship, working closely with the Navy’s future officers.

This initiative, which is one of a range of activities that have been developed by Vodafone in partnership with the Portuguese Navy, will enable the selected young people to experience the sea, adapt to life onboard and acquire knowledge of the sea and of the culture of the Navy.

About the Sail Training Ship ‘Sagres’

Portuguese Republic Ship (NRP) ‘Sagres’ joined the complement of the Portuguese Navy in 1962, and since that year has been used as a sail training ship. In addition to its primary purpose of instructing cadets, the training ship ‘Sagres’ is also an instrument of national diplomacy, representing the Navy and the country, and is regarded as an ambassador of Portugal.
