Vodafone Portugal and Pedro Nunes Institute present prizes in voluntary sector apps competition
This initiative rewarded apps and technological solutions created for the eVida platform that meet real needs previously identified by voluntary organisations.
The eVida platform is part of the TICE.Healthy project based at the Pedro Nunes Institute which develops, integrates and tests innovative technological approaches that could serve as the basis for new products and services in the health and quality of life area.
Over 20 teams that had developed innovative apps participated in the competition. Initially they underwent a pre-selection stage that saw 13 apps being immediately integrated into the eVida platform and qualified for voting by a jury of specialists.
The winning apps in the “Challenge” category were:
1st Place (5000 euros) – Farma2 App: an app for computers or mobile devices that monitors the taking of tablets, keeping track of how many were taken and how many were missed. In this way the patient, medical staff or family members have full control over the taking of medicines and when it is necessary to reorder them.
2nd Place (3000 euros) – Caritas Equipment: an app for managing equipment and machines that can be used by any voluntary organisation.
3rd Place (2000 euros) – Tend App: an app designed to assist in the scheduling of assisted baths, stock control of diapers and daily taking of medication by users.
In the “Innovation” category (5000 euros) the big winner was the Training Teach & Coach – Evida Connect App: an app to manage the organisation of training and physical activity plans.
One of the apps entered in the competition will also have the opportunity to participate for one year in the Vodafone Power Lab incubation programme.
This initiative is the result of interest by Vodafone Portugal and the Pedro Nunes Institute in encouraging and promoting the development of technological solutions that could contribute to improving the efficiency of services provided by voluntary sector organisations, and improving the quality of life of their beneficiaries.
This prize is a further step in Vodafone’s efforts to develop apps that improve people’s quality of life and demonstrate substantial public benefit. Another example of this are the Mobile For Good Awards which Vodafone organises in partnership with AGE Platform Europe and the European Disability Forum which promote the development of mobile apps in the areas of health, accessibility, education and mobility in public services and which distribute a total of 200,000 euros in prize money.
