Further confirmations for Vodafone Mexefest: Benjamin Clementine, Villagers and Sema Uamusse

In November Avenida da Liberdade will be filled with movement in an exciting whirlwind of the best of contemporary music. Three more invitations are confirmed for this year’s Mexefest: Benjamin Clementine, Villagers and Sema Uamusse.

Following a recent amazing tour of Portugal, Benjamin Clementine returns for an absolutely unforgettable concert. He is one of the most prominent British artists of recent times. Before he was 20, life took him to Paris where he lived, penniless and homeless, playing in the most unlikely places to survive. But his self-taught genius was soon discovered and, returning to Britain, he ended up almost by a miracle performing on the famous television show “Later … with Jools Holland”, even though he did not have a contract with a record label, playing the title song of his debut EP, “Cornerstone”.His television appearance was the trigger for Benjamin’s lightning rise.Concerts multiplied, record labels showed up and today Benjamin already has an LP – “At Least For Now” released in January this year – and is one of the serious names in British music.A poet, he sings extremely elegant and visceral soul and pop themes at the piano, recalling the intensity of Nina Simone or the intimate style of Antony Hegarty.

Villagers is the multi-instrumentalist Irish project of Conor O’Brien. For his first two discs he was nominated for several Mercury Prizes and this year released the beautiful “Darling Arithmetic”.For it, O’Brien took on all the roles:composition, playing the instruments, mixing and recording.A recording stripped of exaggerated arrangements, it is emotionally very intense, revealing the intimacy of the musician in a beautiful mix of folk and pop.

Selma Uamusse is undoubtedly one of the great voices of the moment.Mozambican by birth, Portuguese by upbringing, she has worked with famous names in different musical genres like Rodrigo Leão, Nu Jazz Ensemble and Wraygunn, demonstrating all the versatility of her sublime voice. She is preparing the release of her debut work, an album that will bring together African sounds, lacing the compositions with electronic, psychedelic and other music. To see and hear at Vodafone Mexefest.
