MEO signs the reciprocal sport content distribution agreement with Cabovisão, NOS and Vodafone

Portuguese operators Vodafone, Cabovisão, MEO and NOS, signed today the reciprocal sport content distribution agreement.

Under this partnership, Vodafone, Cabovisão, MEO and NOS customers have access to a wide range of sport content – broadcasting rights for matches and club channels –  already acquired or to be acquired in the future by any of the parts. This includes:

  • Access to Benfica TV and all Benfica home matches from the present season 16/17;
  • Television broadcasting rights for Boavista home matches from the present season 16/17;
  • Access to Sporting TV from 1 of July 2017 and broadcasting rights for Sporting home matches from 1 of July 2018;
  • Television broadcasting rights for FC Porto home matches from 1 of July 2018 and access to Porto Canal to all operators.

Acording to Mário Vaz, CEO of Vodafone Portugal: “Vodafone has always advocated the existence of an equal sports content market, where competition is made through service and not through the exclusivity of the offer. I am very pleased in seeing such principles reflected in this agreement, today celebrated between all Portuguese operators”.

With this agreement, all pay TV customers in Portugal will now have access to all relevant sport content, regardless of the Telecom operator they choose to have.
