The National are the first confirmation for Vodafone Paredes de Coura 2019

Vodafone Paredes de Coura is back again on the banks of the River Coura with the return of The National.

At the start of their international career, the American band performed on the Vodafone Paredes de Coura stage for the first time in 2005, to the strains of Alligator. It was an intense performance characterised by the melancholy that issued from the voice of the band’s charismatic vocalist Matt Berninger. It was to the sounds of Mr. November, Secret Meeting and Lit Up  that Matt Berninger, Aaron Dessner, Bryce Dessner, Scott Devendorf and Bryan Devendorf became one of the promises of indie rock. The long awaited return to the natural habitat of music is scheduled for the first day of the festival’s 27th edition on 14 August.

The sounds of alternative country rock, chamber pop and post-punk made the earliest albums of the Ohio band gain a small fan club and critical acclaim in the music world, but it was with LP Boxer (2007) that The National made history. Their fourth studio album marked a change in the quintet’s influences with an expansive orchestral sound to complete the most lyrical and introspective lyrics of the vocalist and composer.

Winner of the National Grammy Award in the category of Best Alternative Album, Sleep Well Beast (2017), the Americans’ latest album, continues navigating in vast, instrumental soundscapes. The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness, Day I Die and Nobody Else Will Be There are some of the themes that will echo in the natural amphitheatre of music.

After a year engraved in memory of the more than 100 thousand people present at Taboão River Beach, Vodafone Paredes de Coura is back for another historic edition on 14, 15, 16 and 17 August 2019.

The FNAC Vodafone Paredes de Coura Fan Pack, which includes the general pass for the festival and an exclusive T-shirt, is now available exclusively at FNAC stores and at fnac.pt for €90.
