Cellular Broadcast Service, allowing to receive free from charge information in the display of Telecel cellular telephones, can be used in Douro Litoral, Trás-os-Montes, Alto Douro and Baixo Alentejo, since May 8th.

Besides those regions, Telecel Cellular Broadcast Service covers the districts of Aveiro, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Guarda, Leiria, Lisbon, Oporto, Santarém and Viseu, besides the Algarve and the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Soon this service, already available to more than 70% of the portuguese inhabitants, will be expanded to the rest of the country.

Cellular Broadcast Service allows Customers to receive in the cellular telephone display, information about specific subjects, as well as local information, that can change according to the area where the user is. Information content will depend not only on the area where it is received but also on the selected channel.

There are currently eight information channels available: Totobola and Totoloto; sports news; general news; telephone numbers of the closest hospitals, Advising and Supporting services, closest Pharmacies opened 24 hours, taxis telephone numbers, and closest gas stations working 24 hours.

Telecel is the only national operator to have this service, which is completely free for all its Customers. Foreign visitors roaming in Portugal can also use the service, as long as they are registered in Telecel network. To benefit from this service, the Telecel Customer only needs an equipment supporting cellular broadcasting, have the service enabled on the telephone, and select the desired channel.
