Vodafone Portugal Foundation has supported over 60 projects in ten years
Lisbon, 21 April 2011 The Vodafone Portugal Foundation has supported over 60 projects in areas such as the Environment, Education and Culture, Scientific Research, New Information Technologies, Health and Safety in its first ten years. Organisations like the Interior Ministry, the National Maritime Authority, the Portuguese Lifeboat Institution, the Casa Fernando Pessoa Museum, municipalities, hospitals and universities have been some of the partners chosen to carry out the majority of these projects.
Altogether, around 14 million euros has been invested in projects of recognised public worth. Among them, in the Safety area, is the Healthy Beaches programme, created to promote safety, accessibility and environmental protection on over 150 bathing areas. In the Environment area, numerous projects include the Floresta Verde project, a pioneering programme aimed at preventing, detecting and fighting forest fires. And in Health, the Paediatric Epilepsy Remote Monitoring System designed to increase the number and success rate of surgical operations on children with epilepsy.
Rather than simply making a financial contribution, the support provided by the Vodafone Portugal Foundation is given in the form of planning, implementing and publicising projects in order to help ensure their effectiveness and success.
Over the course of a decade, the Vodafone Portugal Foundation has supported various scientific and technological research, training and professional qualification initiatives in the telecommunications and information technology sector, and helped special social integration projects as well as initiatives promoting Portuguese Language content on the Internet.
The Foundation, a non-profit institution, has played a vital role in Vodafone Portugals Social Responsibility strategy. Through its active role in promoting, supporting and implementing numerous initiatives it has helped to accelerate the development of the Information Society, combat info-exclusion and disseminate mobile telecommunications technologies.
